JCHS Counselor, Dual Enrollment Coordinator, & Beta Sponsor
I was born and raised in Jefferson County. I attended Wrens Elementary and graduated from Wrens High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science from Georgia College and State University (GCSU), a Master of Education in the area of counseling, and an add-on in Special Education from Augusta State University. Rounding out my formal education, I completed an add-on in Educational Leadership and went on to earn my Specialist Degree through GCSU. In 2008, I earned National Board Certification. However, I believe that there are always new things to learn and new knowledge to gain. We all should strive to be lifelong learners.
I began my career in education in 1999 at Wrens Middle School (WMS) as a special education teacher. After teaching for eight years, I became the school counselor at WMS. During my time there, I served as a mentor teacher, a member of the School Improvement Team, the 504 Coordinator as well as the testing coordinator. I was the WMS Beta sponsor for 17 years; it was one of my favorite things. I have also served on the Advisory Committee and Disproportionality Committee for the system. I also directed the annual WMS Christmas play for over 15 years.
After being at WMS for 19 years, I transferred to Jefferson County High School (JCHS) in 2018 to be one of the school counselors there. While I hated leaving my co-workers, many of whom are good friends, I think that change can be a good thing. Without new challenges and change, an individual cannot experience growth. I do enjoy being able to serve even more of the youth in Jefferson County as a result of my new role.
At JCHS, I am the freshman and sophomore Counselor, Dual Enrollment Coordinator, and 504 Coordinator. I also continued my tenure with the National Beta Club by becoming the sponsor for the JCHS Beta Club.
My husband, Troy, and I live in Jefferson County with our two sons, Bryar and Branson. The boys keep us very busy with hunting and sports. We are members at Wrens Baptist Church. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, reading, and traveling. In the summer, I spend a lot of time in the sun either at the pool or the beach. I enjoy reading mystery novels and my go-to movies are Tombstone and Forest Gump. I would give up candy and bread forever before I would give up McDonald’s sweet tea! I tend to be clumsy so I am horrible at all sports, kickball (with a big, semi-soft ball) is my speed. I would enjoy riding bikes if I had somewhere to ride and to ride with, just for leisure...no mountain climbing or racing...think Mary Poppins.
I think the best qualities that a person can have is the ability to admit when they are wrong and take responsibility. It is also important to be able to laugh at yourself. Since I tend to be clumsy and accident-prone, I tend to laugh at myself a good bit.
