Hi! My name is Coach Jim Borum. I am the Construction Technology teacher. I have been teaching 16 years and at JCHS for 15 years. Before my teaching career, I worked for 25 years in the construction industry. I am the fastpitch softball coach and the SkillsUSA and East Georgia Workforce Development Alliance (EGWDA) Advisor. I prepare students to enter into the workforce in the construction industry. There is a great need for construction workers in the CSRA, Georgia, and the United States. I have had many students go into well-paying jobs right out of high school without having to go to college and/or technical schools. While I do believe many things can be learned in the classroom, I believe the best learning takes place in the lab and on the job. During the Learn From Home (LFH) portion of the school year, we will cover employability, safety, construction math, and blueprint reading. These things are usually learned in the classroom setting and can be done individually. After these topics are mastered, students will be more prepared to enter into the lab to do hands on work (when we return to in-school instruction).
